Provide High-quality, In-service Professional Development for STEM Teachers

The research by Margot and Kettler (2019) emphasizes the importance of teachers’ perceptions of STEM integration and education. Effective professional development for STEM teachers can enhance their pedagogical skills and help them incorporate problem-based learning experiences. The research by the NSTC (2018) also highlights the significance of providing high-quality professional development for teachers to improve access to high-quality STEM education for all students.

Connectivity

In the network maps shown below, each organization is represented by a colored circle:

  • Solid blue circles represent STEM Outreach Partners.;
  • Solid green circles represent Hub Leads.
  • The bright green circle with a dark green center represents TIES, indicating its role as the Hub Lead Support Partner.

In the network map that depicts overall connectivity, thicker lines represent interactions in which organizations coordinated or collaborated on programming. These types of interactions tend to require a deep level of involvement from participating organizations. In contrast, thinner lines represent interactions in which organizations networked or shared expertise and/or lessons learned; although networking and sharing expertise or lessons learned require a limited level of involvement from participating organizations, it may be helpful to partners as they implement their programming. On average, partners interacted with 13 organizations across the option year, ranging from 6 to 22 organizations. See “Network Analysis Calculations for Option Year Three” for more information about how these interactions were calculated.
